In 2017, while working at Lexmark Canada, Sam Daskalopoulos proposed a charity hockey game for the United Way fundraising campaign. In less than 6 weeks, Sam and the Lexmark Canada United Way Committee put together the event and raised $5,000.00. The teams were made up of Lexmark employees, customers and friends of Sam's. The event was highlighted by appearances by former NHLer Keith Acton and our celebrity captains, former MLB player Pete Orr and former Toronto FC captain Jimmy Brennan.
In 2018 with more lead time, the Lexmark/United Way hockey game raised over $12,000.00 and featured appearances by former NHLer and current NHL Alumni Executive Glenn Healy and Newmarket Mayor John Taylor.
In 2019 “Scoring Goals for the Community” was established. We felt it was important to give this incredible event a face and a name.
